I was standing at the bus stop today and a white man was standing too close. We were in Badasshton where they instituted fines of up to $100,000.00 for physical distancing offences. There was no Council meeting and no vote. They did not say what was the critical distance in the new code but I would say he was about five feet away. They took the description. He went south. They eventually confirmed that he was arrested and given a court date. I was not able to make a statement because I was not sure if it was him. He had a mask on at the bus stop but I did my job. Based on the required proof beyond a reasonable doubt, they could not say if it was him. But, I did my job. They also charged me, a white woman, with mischief. Afterwards, when Thought about it, If I was white and had more than grade 8 education, I would never write a law like this. It seems to offend some principle of natural justice and the principle of proportionality. You have to take him seriously.
