Pete Lyons LYONS’S RELATIONSHIP with Road & Track began in Las Vegas in 1968, when he met editor James T. Crow at the last Can-Am contest held at Stardust International Raceway. In the Seventies, Lyons chased the Formula 1 circus around Europe for Autoweek while driving a 1973 Corvette. “Racing is life distilled,” he explains. “Concentrated and intense.” He’s written 16 books, including My Travels on Racer Road, his most recent. Now 85, Lyons says he’s as busy as ever: “Why would I stop doing something I was born to do?” His latest story chronicles the strange origins of Fuji Speedway (page 034).
