 As of mid-September 2026, no train derailments have been reported in the UK during the month of September.

The complete chronological record of UK train derailments officially logged and investigated by the Rail Accident Investigation Branch (RAIB) for 2026 to date includes:

• September 2026: 0 derailment incidents.
• August 14, 2026 – Wickford, Essex: A Greater Anglia passenger service derailed near Wickford station. The carriages remained upright and no injuries were reported.
• August 13, 2026 – Lewes, East Sussex: A Southern Railway passenger service derailed north of Lewes Tunnel during a heatwave. Three rear carriages overturned down an embankment, resulting in 30 injuries (20 requiring hospital care).
• June 19, 2026 – Elstow, Bedfordshire: A collision between two East Midlands Railway passenger trains south of Bedford caused both trains to partially derail, resulting in 1 fatality (a train driver) and 162 injuries.
